Formed in 1969 in Long Beach, California, WAR was known for its eclectic blend of funk, soul, jazz, and rock. Their distinctive sound came from the amalgam of different sounds and styles the band members heard living in the racially-diverse ghettos of Los Angeles. The original members of WAR were: “Lonnie” Jordan - lead vocals, keyboards; Howard E. Scott - guitar, vocals; Lee Oskar - harmonica, vocals; “Papa Dee” Allen - percussion, vocals; Harold Brown - drums, vocals; Charles Miller - saxophone, vocals; and “B.B” Dickerson - bass, vocals. At the height of the band’s popularity in the 1970s, they released numerous hit records such as : War, All Day Music, The World Is A Ghetto, Deliver The Word, Why Can’t We Be Friends?, Platinum Jazz, Galaxy, and many more. Their live album from 1974 - “War Live” is a double LP which has earned the accolade of being one of the best live albums of all time. Though the band has witnessed changes in its performing cast over the years, WAR is still active and touring today. With this design Stereo8 pays tribute to the legendary funk band WAR and their album “All Day Music” from 1971.
